Frank received his first camera from his Uncle Sid when he was 14. After he exhausted his familial subjects, he moved on to documenting local events. His subjects were as diverse as portraits of the local school board, boat christenings on the Mississippi River and traffic accidents. Sometimes he was actually hired to make these images. His earnings were earmarked for college where his mother, Zelda, dreamt of his becoming a doctor.
